Why should I get my carpets professionally cleaned?

Most Americans spend 90% of their time indoors, where pollutants may be at levels 200% to 500% higher than outdoors, even in cities with a lot of air pollution. The EPA lists indoor air quality (IAQ) as the 4th largest environmental threat to our country.

Dust mites in particular, affect indoor air quality. Although they are invisible to the eye, dust mites live off the gunk that sinks down into the carpet. Every time someone walks across the carpet, dust mites and pollutants are released into the air.

Pollutants can stay airborne for an hour or more, so the average home will always have these particulates in the air. This is especially harmful to those with allergies. This is why we believe carpet cleaning is foremost a health issue, secondarily an appearance issue.

When your carpets are cleaned using CitruSolution®, they don’t just look good. Our cleaner contains d-Limonene, a naturally occurring citrus product extracted from the peels of oranges, lemons, and grapefruit. D-Limonene has been proven to destroy dust mites and address common allergens that can cause respiratory problems.

How often should I have my carpets cleaned?

You wash your laundry after every use, and you don’t walk all over it! Cleaning with CitruSolution® every 6-12 months gets out the dirt and allergens that your vacuum doesn’t. Pick a “reminder date” like the week before a birthday, Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving or Memorial Day! The EPA recommends having your carpets cleaned once a year, or twice a year if you have pets or children.

One reason is that a carpet acts as an air filter in your home. As air is moving in your home, and it does move, the carpet fibers are trapping contaminants just like the air filter is doing. You replace your air filter every three months or more. How often do you have the biggest air filter in your home cleaned? Having your carpets maintained does more than improve their appearance, it promotes health. We can reduce the allergens in your carpet.

How should I keep my carpet looking clean for longer?

Catch the dirt at the door. Remember that bathroom floor, gas station pavement, or muddy lawn you just walked on? A high-quality doormat/carpet is well worth the investment. Leave your shoes at the door, and if you like to wear shoes indoors, keep an “inside only” pair.

And vacuum, vacuum, vacuum! We can’t stress this enough. Think of each grain of dirt as a carpet fiber’s enemy. By abrasion, they wear and tear the fiber, and leave it more prone to staining. Also, when you vacuum your carpets you remove live and dead dust mites, and also their source of nourishment — dead skin. Use a high-quality vacuum with a HEPA air filter to prevent dust from running through the vacuum and back into your home.

Can CitruSolution® handle pet stains?

We love our pets too, but we also know they can make a big mess. Do you have a carpet, chair, couch, or anything else that’s been soiled by your pet? It won’t be a problem for our team.

Why do the spots in my carpet keep coming back?

Spots reappearing typically are caused by one of a couple of culprits. Something sticky on your carpet is attracting debris and dirt, usually, this is a result of an off-the-shelf foamy or soapy spot cleaner. Resurfacing spots could also be caused by the soapy carpet cleaning products used by our competitors. They might even use extra soap to try and remove the stain, which ultimately only makes the problem worse. They also use tons of water, which helps wick up stains buried in your carpet. Though it rarely happens, if a stubborn spot returns after we’ve left, you can just remove it with the bottle of CitruSolution we leave at every visit.

Do you move furniture when you come to clean my carpet?

We request that you please move everything in an area you want to be cleaned. It’s a liability for us to move your property, though we are more than happy to help move a few items if you need a hand. We recommend moving items to a room not being cleaned, like a kitchen or bath tile floor.

Why is there a dark area along my baseboards and closet doors?

This condition, known as “air infiltration” is caused by your carpet literally filtering the dirt out of the air in your house. Sealing your air ducts or installing air filters should reduce this dark area.

I just spilled all over my carpet! What should I do?

Remember, spills and soiling can be removed, stained carpet fiber is forever! No matter what the spill or soiling, the MOST important step is to deal with it immediately. If you have a shop-vac, vacuum up the spill as soon as possible, if not, use a thick towel and stand on it until it absorbs as much of the liquid as possible. Then, pour some cool clean water on it, and repeat. Finally, treat it with CitruSolution® CitruSpotter: shake well, spray liberally, blot or wipe gently as needed, and repeat as needed.

Be aware that most store-bought products are soapy or leave behind a slightly sticky residue, so you will need to rinse them out of the carpet with cool, clean water as well (use the shop-vac) to avoid getting a dirty spot attracted by that sticky residue.

If you suspect that the spill soaked into the padding, or your water did when you rinsed it, it’s likely a “dirty spot” will return because the dirty liquid in the padding will “wick” back to the surface of the carpet as it dries. This can usually be wiped up with a wet cloth.
